Because of all the models, plastered upon our daily lives you put unreachable expectations on ourselves to be or look like something you could never really achieve. This leads to you always putting yourself in different situations that make you doubt yourself as well as look down at yourself.
Many people in this generation have problems when it comes to the picture of yourself. You always manage to find new ways to dislike your appearance, whether that is your weird, hidden toes or generally the way you look when you check your reflection.
I know that this is a topic that is widely spoken about by our generation and by many activists. There should not be media that puts unreachable expectations on you. But what people seem to neglect at times is self love.
You are told not to hate yourself for how you look and that you are to accept yourself but you are very rarely told how to go about it. It is almost as if you are set for disaster. But I want to help you as best I can.
Now, I can’t say I am confident, that I love myself and how I look all of the time. I know I can do better but I also know that if I don’t accept myself now, I won’t be able to accept myself at the highs of my life.
When I realized this almost a year ago, I started to look myself in the mirror and just right out tell myself that I am pretty, I am enough and I love myself. Something as little as that made me accept myself little by little.
You are the only person you are going to live with for the rest of your life. It is not worth it to despise yourself. Take small steps and as soon as you know it you’ll have accepted yourself and opened new opportunities for yourself.
Being a student sucks. You are constantly drawn to stress no matter how much you try to avoid it. There is always a trigger that sets off the small breakdowns students are so renowned for. It’s almost as if there is no end to the workload that awaits. Sometimes we forget to desires because we are so focused on the bazillion tasks we have ahead of us. Here are some tips to slowly destress and stop worrying in our day-to-day lives.
Drink a warm Beverage
It is a well known fact that warm milk makes you Sleep better because it causes your muscles to relax. Whenever you feel like you’re on the verge to throwing your work out the window, take a break and sip on a hot drink. No matter if it’s tea, hot coco or just plain milk, I can hate tee you’ll feel just a tad bit better.
Make a To-Do list
Making a to-do list may feel daunting and wrong for whenever you are trying to keep your mind off of the tasks you have to do. Constructing a list will help you focus on the most important tasks first as well as it keeps you focus. Just keep in mind not to be too ambitions. Be realistic with what you can do that day and stick to it.
As any other teenagers we neglect to see the importance of sleep. Instead of going to sleep we always want to get our tasks done for the day (or watch Netflix). If you are yawning it is a sign that your body wants you to get back to sleep. Try sleeping before 11 so that you don’t feel too tired in the mornings, thus relieving your stress as you are able to concentrate on your work.
Listen to good Music
It is a known fact that music lifts our mood and makes us feel a lot better.What I would suggest is listening to not only your favorite tunes but tunes that make you happy. Get on to making a list with happy songs which will in turn lift your spirits and makes you forget some if the stress you are holding inside.
I know what you’re thinking. You don’t have the time to exercise and I have been at that point too. But what we forget is the benefit training has on our brain and understanding. Not only do we feel better and less stressed after a work out but we are re-wiring our brains into taking in information in a better way.
Take one Day Off
We’re always so stuck in our little circle of work that we forget to give ourselves some time off and do everything that we want to do. That is why you should take a day of the week that is completely free from work to just relax. Life is too short to be always be working.
This is the most important piece of advise I can give anyone. Whenever you feel like all you want to do is lay down and cry remember to take a deep breath. You can do this because you are strong. There is no need to stress, just breathe.
Travelling. Something that a whole lot of us love to do. It seems to have grown to be the hobby and the joy of many people these days. We want to see something other than the place we have been living in for the bulk of our lives. We want to experience, something new, something we have not seen before.
Although countries seem to be alluring and they have a way of seducing us, drawing us in, as the new generation we are slowly starting to learn. Travelling is not only about luxury and relaxation, although it is a good focal point at times. Travelling is about learning more about the world we live in, opening our eyes to something that we are not emerged in on a daily bases.
Travel right. Learn that luxury is not the point because then you might as well stay at home and papper yourself on a Friday night. The point is to fully drown yourself in the culture and beauty of other countries. It is to open your eyes to life and the people you share this planet with.
We spend so much time focusing on the way we look like, judging the way we look and pushing ourselves down. How many times have you walked past a mirror, stopped and started to inspect yourself? How many times have you started to stare att your imperfections as soon as you meet your reflexion?
There is this weird sense of having to check your whole being as soon as mirrors stare back at us. I’m not saying you should stay away from checking yourself out every now and again but I am telling you not to start picking at anything and everything that could be wrong with you. It’s slowly picking our self-esteem apart.
As soon as you have been away from your reflection for more than you are used to, the more you start to appreciate yourself and all the features that come with being you. It’s almost as though a new light shines and you start to reflect the way you feel deep inside to how you look.
Mirrors and thinking about the external takes away from the way we truly feel whether that has to do with how much we love ourselves or how we feel in general. I think we have to start shifting our focus and stop focusing on everything negative in our reflections and start tuning into our intuitions.
Something that struck me this week is the fact that people are no longer willing to read something longer than an Instagram caption. We as teenagers are constantly sucked into images and videos that might not give us anything. In no way, shape or form am I saying that there aren’t any pictures or movies that can change your life. What I am saying is that we are slowly forgetting the power of words.
We no longer want to read. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that technology has developed so incredibly or maybe it has to do with us being hot-wired to be lazy but we would rather watch a youtube videos of people screaming at their displays.
Books and longer texts give us something that other mediums might not be able to deliver. They can give you a look into life through other’s eyes and open your to something much greater than you could ever imagine. Words give you the power to understand something deeper than you could imagine and they can help you live your life to its fullest.
I guess it’s time to pick a book up.
